Joshua Smith Sports Scientist Teams Up With Bafana
Joshua Smith (Class of 2004) has recently been appointed as the consultant sports scientist for the South African national soccer team (Bafana Bafana).
Joshua was involved in the COSAFA Cup in July, and African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Botswana in July and Zambia in August. He will also be involved in the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Burkina Faso on Saturday the 7th October 2017.
Smith spent 5 years at Kaizer Chiefs, as their Head of Sports Science. In 2015 he left the club with Stuart Baxter to join Turkish Super Lig team, Genclerbirligi. He left the Turkish outfit at the same time as the the former Amakhosi coach when he exited the club in August 2015.
In 2016 Smith joined up again with Stuart Baxter at Supersport United, where he was involved in the back to back Nedbank Cup victories (2016 and 2017 champions). He has now returned to his home town to work as the Senior Team Sports Scientist for Amazulu Football Club in Durban.
