In 1971 the First Game was entrusted to Trevor Bennison and Dave Collier and the combination proved to be an excellent one. The season proved to be a vintage one and in retrospect this team can lay claim to be one of the School’s finest with a record of 19 wins from 21 games only losing to College away and to Prince Edward on tour to Rhodesia.

The team was led by Don Spiers who later played hooker for Natal and the SA Barbarians. Surprisingly, in 1971, only Spiers from this team went played Natal Schools and then on the flank.
